Tanzania Lake Manyara Safari Camps
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s smallest wildlife enclaves and a spectacular reserve with an incredible diversity of terrain and animal species. Established specifically to protect the elephant herds that have made this area world renowned, the park provides an excellent and varied wildlife experience. Hidden away high in the trees in a secluded corner of the national park and the only lodge in the park, Lake Manyara Tree Lodge offers a sophisticated blend of natural indulgence and romance. Between the dense forest of the lakeshore and the steep Rift Valley escarpment, the lodge is perfectly positioned to explore the park’s wealth of habitats.
There are ten tree house suites with private verandas and large windows that open up to the lush forest, welcoming in the sights and sounds of the African bush. Spacious bedrooms and sitting rooms float in a sea of green, opening up onto a leafy canopy. Even a soak in the suite’s large free-standing tub offers a panoramic view, with an open air shower behind a simple bamboo screen. All suites have private bathrooms. The lodge pool beckons like a cool oasis in an ocean of shady green. Generous decks suspended above the forest floor open up to a wooded embrace. Tantalizing aromas drift from the open, interactive kitchen, luring guests to watch as simple but delicious meals are prepared.
Apart from the elephants, Lake Manyara is equally famous for the unusual behavior of its iconic tree-climbing lions as for the massive flocks of pink flamingos that inhabit the lake's shores. Buffalo in large herds, cheetah, leopard, Maasai giraffe and hippo can all the encountered. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with more than 400 species on record. Twice daily safari drives are included.
Lemala Manyara, starting November 2010, is a new seasonal camp located inside the magnificent Manyara National Park to take advantage of the game movement from surrounding areas into the park. The camp has seven beautiful tents. Each tent is outfitted with two large single beds or one king-size bed, warm duvets, private bathrooms with flush toilets and large safari showers, and wooden cabinets and flooring, 24-hour solar lighting, an outside lounger, a writing table and more. The new tents are some of the most spacious and comfortable seasonal tents in Tanzania. The main tent offers separate living and dining areas with a central bar area. It is beautifully decorated with leather sofas, chandeliers, side cabinets and rugs.
Lemala Manyara offers an authentic safari experience in traditional style reminiscent of the golden safari era. The spectacular secluded location surrounded by fig and acacia trees overlooking the towering Rift Valley Escarpment gives the camp its serene air. Being based centrally inside the park, you can cover a wider game area and enjoy early game drives without any other people in sight. When you return from the game drive, you are treated to bush breakfast or lunch – and afterwards, sundowners in the evening by the camp fire. Lemala Manyara is open from mid-November to mid-March.
